Turkcell and Huawei trial first LiTRA trunking app for emergency services

    -

Turkcell and Huawei have announced the first live demonstration of an LTE-based trunk service designed for mission critical communications.

The pair said the showcase of LTE integrated Trunked Radio (LiTRA), running on Turkcell’s 4.5G network in Turkey, was a world-first. The LTE technology stands to provide emergency services and government agencies with additional coverage and capacity, compared with standard private mobile radio (PMR) solutions.

LiTRA is fully compliant with 3GPP standards and easy to deploy, requiring only a limited upgrade of live LTE networks.

Huawei said Push-to-Talk and Push-to-Video applications running on a LiTRA network can deliver voice, video and other rich content services to first responders, and enable them to promptly dispatch services with improved location information and better ability to coordinate units in the field, even where commercial telecoms services are unavailable.

Earlier this month, rival Nokia announced it had expanded and its range of LTE-based public safety solutions in a newly-created ‘Nokia Group Communications’ portfolio, integrating its traditional push-to-talk and new push-to-video applications onto a range of certified LTE devices for public safety agencies.

Meanwhile, Chinese vendor Huawei said it has succeeded with network slicing solution at a trial site with China Telecom Shanghai.

Huawei said China Telecom Shanghai, serving a combination of “enterprise private line users, common home users, and common campus users”, has faced increased pressure on equipment space and power consumption as its user base has grown.

Huawei’s access network slicing solution is the first based on the latest OLT MA5800 distributed smart platform, it said. It “guarantees” service reliability and network security, as well as saving on space and power by allowing physical resources to be managed according to demand.

Jeff Wang, President of Huawei Access Network Product Line, said: “With this function, multiple services can be independently carried, operated, maintained, and managed on one network, helping operators improve device utilisation, lower operational and maintenance costs, and achieve business successes.”
