Nokia prepares to make Impact on IoT device management

    -

Nokia has launched a new device management platform for the delivery of Internet of Things services, as it continues to build out its IoT offering.

The Intelligent Management Platform for All Connected Things (Impact), is aimed at service providers, businesses and governments. It runs data collection, event processing, device management, data contextualisation, analytics, security and applications enablement for any device, protocol or application.

It includes the latest version of Nokia’s Motive Connected Device Platform, which handles more than 1.5 billion devices and provides management for the lives of more than 80,000 makes of broadband, home and IoT devices.

Nokia said the new cloud-based platform’s advantages include the ability to dial up server capacity on demand, network, cloud and end-point security, flexibility to support the likes of private and public cloud, software as a service and transactional deployments, and sophisticated device management.

The vendor said it can now provide companies and organisations with applications, platforms, infrastructure and devices and sensors.

Bhaskar Gorti, President of the Applications and Analytics Business Group at Nokia, said: “Our new Impact platform with Motive CDP is particularly strong in device management, security and analytics. These matter because as we work to collect and derive meaning from IoT data, it becomes more valuable to everyone involved – and more crucial to protect.”

Yesterday, Nokia revealed its intention to enter the smart home, with a new solution spanning a gateway, mobile app and management platform.

It said the solution supports the delivery of home security, automation and smart metering products. It will be launched by the end of this year.
