NetIX doubles network capacity across Europe

    -

Marseille to Milan and Madrid to Frankfurt get a boost with more Marseille upgrades imminent

Bulgarian-based telco Neterra Group’s global Internet exchange platform NetIX has added a new 100Gbps route between Marseille and Milan to keep up with customer demand and boost network resilience. The service provider has also doubled capacity between Madrid and Frankfurt to 200 Gbps.

NetIX VP of connectivity services Dean Belev said “Increasing capacity on popular routes makes logical sense, but adding new routes to offer resiliency is where we shine. This move will ensure our network can continue providing connectivity between key cities needed for economic growth.”

He said Marseille was a major telecoms hub connecting Europe to Africa, the Middle East and Asia via ten subsea cables with two more planned to go live later this year, plus a further two that are due to be ready for service in 2025.

“Northern Italy has long been a transportation hub for air and ground traffic but as we move towards a more online world, the region’s becoming an important core for exchanging Internet traffic, as well,” he added. “And with Frankfurt being the largest financial centre in mainland Europe, its always-on telecoms are relied upon by major names around the world.”

Belev said NetIX plans to further improve its network resiliency by deploying a new 100Gbps link between Madrid and Marseille. He added that the group’s network stretches across more than 220 global data centres in more than 100 cities from 65 countries. The NetIX platform connects its 200 or so members to content from more than 10,000 visible networks and more than 30 Internet exchanges.

    Not only Europe

Last October NetIX announced partnerships with two APAC-based network service providers, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) and Epsilon Group. Telin can use NetIX for European customers while NetIX can better reach potential Indonesia and Asian-based customers.

As a global software-defined network provider, NetIX said Epsilon is able to offer a comprehensive suite of end-to-end connectivity and communication solutions, including colocation and voice services. By mid-September, Epsilon had completed uploading more than 220 NetIX locations and peering services onto its network as a service platform, Infiny. Espilon also added all of Neterra’s locations and services into the platform.
