NEC, NetCracker to develop SDN/NFV solutions under new brand

    -

NEC and NetCracker will co-develop a SDN and NFV solution after launching an initiative to help service providers explore the opportunities presented by the technologies.

Working under a new business brand called NEC/NetCracker SDN/NFV Solutions, the companies will undertake joint R&D into new end-to-end SDN and NFV technologies for a “multi-domain environment”, help standardise them and bring them to market.

The initiative will also provide BSS and OSS for service providers undertaking proof of concept (POC) trials and commercial deployments of SDN and NFV, as well as virtualised evolved packet core (vEPC), virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE) and virtualised MVNO solutions.

Andrew Feinberg, President and CEO of NetCracker, said the collaboration would help service providers realise “the next generation of networks and services through virtualisation”.

The launch follows a successful trial of the companies’ vCPE technology with Telekom Austria this week, in which the operator deployed a fully virtualised LTE stack over a commercial network.

Shunichiro Tejima, Executive Vice President of NEC, said: “SDN/NFV has the potential for drastically changing carrier network operations and management. The solutions of NEC and NetCracker in this area earn high marks from customers.

“The new initiative has been established to integrate the strengths of the two companies and to offer greater customer value. Under this new brand, we will drive the SDN/NFV business and contribute to the virtualisation of infrastructure and networks.”
