Mavenir lab testing 5G SA on DT’s cloud infrastructure

    -

Separately, Telefónica, Vodafone and Duetsche Telekom (DT) Germany interconnected RCS via Mavenir’s Business Messaging Cloud to cover 13 countries.

First up, the successful lab tests with DT, Mavenir’s 5G stand alone (SA) core supported combined 4G and 5G core functionalities. Mavenir said that as well as 3GPP 5G functionality, the collaboration focused on automation, onboarding, continuous ingetration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and other non-functional areas like resilience, fault tolerance and performance in the shape of load and stress tests.

    Seamless handover

Mavenir and DT jointly validated the combined nodes, using 4G microservices to monitor the handover from 4G to 5G in the core.

“To support 5G use cases and 5G scale and required automation, Mavenir has developed a cloud-native microservices-based 4G to 5G combo-core,” said Pardeep Kohli, President and CEO of Mavenir (pictured). “With the use of web-scale technologies, operators [can support] new 5G subscribers and their existing 4G subscribers with the same solution.”

    RCS at scale

Separately, using Mavenir’s Business Messaging Cloud, Telefónica, Vodafone and DT Germany completed peer to peer interconnection for rich communications services (RCS) using its software as a service (SaaS) Business Messaging Cloud which complies with Universal Profile 2.0 RCS solution.

The cloud solution includes the RCS and IMS Cores, session border controllers and firewalls for RCS P2P messaging, and the messaging as a platform (MaaP) layer to deliver application-to-person and person-to-application business messaging to users, including chatbot experiences and advanced business messaging services.

Mavenir said this is one of the largest RCS carrier interconnections ever achieved, with a potential addressable market of more than 158 million customers who could opt to become RCS subscribers in 13 countries.

This includes three for Telefónica, 13 for Vodafone markets, and Deutsche Telekom Germany, and other operators.

Mavenir said three mobile operators, with a combined total of 40 million customers who could subscribe to RCS, have already deployed Mobile Business Messaging Cloud.

The interconnections allow operators using the service to interconnect more easily, at less cost, but they determine their own commercial terms.
