Huawei puts its NB-IoT solution on the launchpad

    -

Huawei has announced its latest 5G benckmarks and revealed its commercialised NB-IoT solution will launch in December.

A large commercial trial of the LPWAN solution will be held during the fourth quarter of this year. It comprises chipsets, base stations, an IoT packer core and a cloud based management platform with big data capabilities.

Following the standardisation of NB-IoT technology, which was completed last week, Huawei said its solution will help operators to deploy IoT networks quickly and affordably.

Jiang Wangcheng, Vice President of the Marketing & Solutions Department in Huawei’s Products and Solutions division, said: “The number of cellular IoT connections worldwide will grow seven-fold over the next three to four years. NB-IoT will be a key driver for this trend – it will also be one of the key untapped markets for operators.”

The vendor said it will also launch an online portal in the third quarter of this year to allow developers to hold remote innovation testing.

Earlier this month, Huawei worked with Vodafone in trialling a pre-standardised NB-IoT network in Madrid.

Rivals Ericsson and Nokia have also been testing pre-standardised NB-IoT solutions but have yet to announce their own products since 3GPP signed off on the technology.

Meanwhile, the vendor held a range of 5G demonstrations at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2016.

These included a 5G prototype on the 3.5GHz band with China Mobile, a network slicing solution, and a separate prototype network running between 6-100GHz.
