Europcar Mobility to connect vehicles in Europe via Telefónica and Geotab

    -

The two will become strategic partners with the car company after a successful trial in Mallorca (pictured).

Telefónica and Geotab’s solution enables real time telematics monitoring of the vehicle fleet for a better customer experience.

Europcar Mobility Group already had 44,000 connected cars on Europe’s roads 2019 and aims to connect all of its fleet by 2023, as part of its Connect roadmap.

The first stage of deployment is planned in France in 2020 starting with Vans & Trucks fleet, with other countries to follow in 2021.

    Data points

Geotab and Telefónica will provide the Group with access to engine data, information about drivers’ behaviour and GPS location services that includes insights into: distances travelled, mileage, speed, acceleration, fuel level, accident detection and more.

The data is a key component of Europcar Mobility Group’s Connected Cars programme, and will be used to help improve customer experience, and optimise business applications and internal processes. Examples include fleet inventory management, delivery and collection of vehicles, their maintenance and return, and more.

Telefónica IoT has more than 20 million connected devices on its growing Kite Platform. The operator provides managed connectivity services across the world with a dedicated workforce 24/7.

    Cutting edge mobility

“We chose Telefonica and Geotab for their agile, service-oriented solutions, their cutting-edge mobility and fleet management technologies as well as their international coverage”, declared Olivier Baldassari, Chief Countries & Operations Officer of Europcar Mobility Group.

Gonzalo Martín-Villa, Global Director of IoT and Big Data at Telefónica Tech, commented, “We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with the Europcar Mobility Group…thanks to our expertise, we have been able to come up with an ad hoc, scalable solution.”

Neil Cawse, CEO of Geotab, added, “Collaborating with industry leaders around the world allows us to better enable fleet ecosystems to develop maintenance and sustainability programs that can help optimise the cost of ownership of each vehicle.”
