Project Nephio, an open source telecoms project was formed in April 2022, “in partnership with Google Cloud” now has more than 50 participating companies. This is after another 28 just joined, including operators Deutsche Telekom (DT), KT, Telefónica, Verizon and Vodafone.
The Nephio Technical Summit is taking place this week in Sunnyvale, California, to discuss strategy, technology enhancements, the roadmap for and operational aspects of cloud-native automation for telecoms and to form a Technical Steering Committee (TSC).
Yet another open-source forum?
Do we need yet another open-source project? Apparently. Nephio’s goal is to deliver carrier-grade, open, Kubernetes-based cloud-native intent automation and common automation templates. The idea is that the templates will “materially simplify the deployment and management of multi-vendor cloud infrastructure and network functions across large scale edge deployments”.

Other new supporters include: A5G Networks, Alicon Sweden, Amdocs, ARGELA, Capgemini Technology, CIMI Corporation, Cohere Technologies, Coredge.io, CPQD, HPE, Keysight Technologies, Kubermatic, Kydea, MantisNet, Matrixx, Minsait, Nabstract, Prodapt, Sandvine, SigScale, Spirent Communications, Tata Elxsi, TechMahidra and Wind River, and Wipro.
