China Mobile achieves 4.52 Gbps in carrier-aggregation tests with Huawei

Add TDD+FDD, times it by three – and it could augment reality

China Mobile in Sichuan and Huawei have broken new throughput records with a carrier aggregation (CA) experiment that blended three component carriers (known in the business as a ‘3CC’ job). The bandwidth boost could make technologies like virtual and augmented reality more workable for telcos in the Middle East and Africa that use Huawei equipment.

    Metaverse maker?

The ‘3CC CA’ verification attempted to recreate ‘typical networking scenarios’, with one of the three component carriers being on the n79 band (4.9 GHz), having a bandwidth of 100 MHz, and the other two on the n41 band (2.6 GHz) and n28 band (700 MHz), having a bandwidth of 100 MHz and 30 MHz, respectively.

    Emerging services

Under the test conditions, the single-user-perceived rate can reach 4.12 Gbps at different test spots, Huawei reports. In order to improve user experiences, the 2.6 GHz band must first support 5G networks in hotspot areas. So the Huawei and China mobile comms engineers verified that they could combine n79 band (4.9 GHz) with a bandwidth of 100 MHz and n41 band (2.6 GHz) with a bandwidth of 100 MHz and 60 MHz.

    Emerging economies

The bottom line is that there is an achievable data rate of 4.52 Gbps through the aggregation of three carriers. “This can facilitate the development of emerging services, like artificial and augmented reality, that have high requirements on network performance,” said the Huawei statement. The testing was performed on live networks in this test site belonging to China Mobile in Chengdu.
