Aricent launches SON service, teams up with Octasic for small cell

    -

Software vendor Aricent has launched an advanced self-optimising network service called Universal SON (Uni-SON).

The service automates optimisation of multi-technology and multi-layered radio access networks, which improves user experience while reducing operational expenditure. In addition, the customisable platform automates the optimisation of 2G, 3G and LTE networks simultaneously.

The centralised architecture provides the user with a wide overview of their network, which helps them in managing network conflicts after establishing the ideal configuration settings.

The service can be tailored for operators who are using network equipment from multiple vendors.

“The complexity of managing today’s multi-technology heterogeneous networks requires a centralized SON solution, like Uni-SON, that can optimize the entire network from a single control point,” said Pratyush Dasgupta, Vice President at Aricent.

“Uni-SON helps in ensuring that the entire network has optimal coverage and capacity, with minimum interference and can guarantee seamless mobility and compelling user experience.”

In a separate announcement, the vendor signed an agreement with Octasic to develop 3G and LTE small cell platforms.

The new small cell platform will help the telecom equipment manufacturers in building advanced 3G and 4G small cell solutions for vertical markets such as public safety and defence.

Octasic, which is a provider of devices and technology platforms for wireless base stations and media processing, will work on OEM-ready 3G and LTE small cell joint solutions, that include Aricent’s 3G small cell and LTE eNodeB framework.

The OCTBTS 3000 platform has proven extremely popular with developers of outdoor small cell base stations, and our customers are excited by the joint solutions’ ease-of-use and performance,” said Michel Laurence, President of Octasic.
