Huawei proposes app-based networks of the future

    -

Huawei has offered its take on next generation architecture, proposing an application-driven network (ADN) that will be led by demand.

The vendor said fixed and wireless networks should put applications first. It said that instead of mapping a few applications onto a physical network, a decision that turns operators into “pipes”, an ADN would be more dynamic and customisable from end-to-end.

Huawei said this new kind of architecture would lead to more stable networks that can cope with unexpected changes in usage.

While the architecture will use SDN and NFV technologies, Huawei said they will be integrated into it rather than form the foundations of the network. The vendor said this would help operators to focus more on customer experience.

Huawei Fellow, Dr. Wen Tong said: “Our innovative ADN architecture vision puts applications at the network’s core to deliver significant application-efficiency gains for networks. Unlike traditional network architectures, ADNs will support application abstraction, network re-programmability, global and local coordination of network resources, and application decoupling by service layering. With these advantages, ADN is poised to meet a variety of future application demands, for example, in 5G networks.”

Meanwhile, the vendor has also revealed a new antenna which it said would maximise TDD-LTE network capacity and efficiency.

The EasyRET 3.5GHz 8T8R Antenna is designed to deal with higher levels of propagation loss and interference at frequencies above 3GHz. It uses beamforming and beamsplitting to improve signals, as well as a feature that enhances network management.
