Com Hem brings 1.2GBps speeds to Sweden

    -

Swedish triple play provider Com Hem has rolled out 1.2GBps fibre to 600,000 households across the country.

Customers in Stockholm, Borås, Falun, Gothenburg, Gävle, Jönköping, Linköping, Malmö and Uppsala will be able to take advantage of the new speeds.

The telco is in the midst of upgrading its FiberKoax network to the next generation Docsis 3.1, which it said will offer greater capacity and speeds. It said the goal was to offer its customers downloads in excess of 1.2GBps.

James Lowther, Broadband Director of Com Hem, said: “In recent years, we have upgraded our network, and this means we can now offer download speeds of up to 1,200 Mbit/s to a large number of Swedish households.

“When we have completed the roll-out, we will be able to offer these speeds to most of our network. The upgrade will also enable even faster speeds moving forward. This places us at the heart of digitalisation in Sweden.”

The telco is set to be taken over by Tele2 after a deal worth €2.9 billion was agreed in January. The acquisition is set to close by the end of this year.

Earlier this month, Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom continued their broadband pushes across Germany.

Vodafone launched 250MBps by introducing vectoring technology outside of its wider fibre rollout, which is available to 12.7 million buildings.

Deutsche Telekom upgraded 405,000 households to speeds of more than 100MBps by swapping out cards at cabinets or IP migration.
