Huawei signs Wi-Fi software partner, Fon launches new operator-focused brand

    -

Huawei has bolstered its enterprise Wi-Fi portfolio through a new partnership, as Wi-Fi provider Fon attempts to woo operator and business customers by debuting a sub-brand.

The deal will see Huawei integrating its Wi-Fi access points with Ekahau’s site survey products, which allow network managers to design, optimise and troubleshoot Wi-Fi networks.

The integration aims to provide Huawei hardware customers with a better experience when planning their networks using Ekahau products, including the Site Survey and 3D Planner software tool and Sidekick, an all-in-one measurement device for Wi-Fi networks.

The integrated solution will be available by the end of this year.

“We hope that our solutions can be perfectly complementary to each other and form a joint force to better meet users’ requirements,” said Li Xing, Director of WLAN Products of Huawei’s Switch & Enterprise Gateway Product Line.

This week also saw Wi-Fi aggregation specialist Fon launch the new Fontech brand.

The brand will offer software designed to make Wi-Fi management more “smart and simple” for operators and enterprises.

Fon CEO Alex Puregger said: “We are launching Fontech to accelerate the deployment of carrier-grade WiFi on a global scale by developing a cutting-edge portfolio of Wi-Fi solutions.”

Fon is the world’s largest Wi-Fi sharing network, managing 21 million hotspots worldwide. Its operator customers include BT, Deutsche Telekom, KPN, SFR and Proximus.

In June, Fon released an Enhanced Connectivity Solution to help communication service providers find the best available Wi-Fi network.
