Qualcomm breaks through 1 million IoT chipset shipments daily barrier

    -

Qualcomm is shipping more than one million Internet of Things chipsets per day, the company has announced.

It said partners are demanding the ability to commercialise new IoT products and services quickly and cheaply across the likes of wearables, voice, connected camera, robotics, drones, automation, entertainment, and commercial and industrial use cases.

Raj Talluri, Senior Vice President, Product Management, IoT, Qualcomm Technologies said: “We are focused on significantly expanding capabilities at the edge of the network by supporting everyday objects with the connectivity, compute and security technologies required to build a powerful IoT, where devices are smart, convenient, work well together and incorporate advanced security features.

“While hundreds of brands have shipped over 1.5 billion IoT products using our solutions, we are just getting a glimpse of the benefits that the IoT can deliver, with analysts estimating that IoT applications could have a total economic impact of up to 11 trillion dollars a year by 2025. We have built strong capabilities on top of our leadership in mobile inventions, and we are innovating in exciting new areas such as deep learning, voice interface and LTE IoT that will power a new generation of IoT devices.”

The company said its wearable platforms are being used in more than 150 product designs and more than 80 percent of Android Wear smartwatches use the chipset maker’s Snapdragon Wear 2100.

More than 125 million connected home products have been shipped using its chipsets and more than 30 industrial IoT designs use its modems.

At Mobile World Congress earlier this year, Qualcomm demonstrated the latest version of its cellular vehicle to everything technology.

Qualcomm is currently entangled in legal action with Apple, which it said would ultimately affect its financials.
