    SpiderCloud strengthens small cell portfolio

    -

SpiderCloud has released two new enterprise small cell products, focusing on LTE-U and simplified deployment.

An LTE-U compatible Enterprise RAN system is being targeted at businesses and public venues. It combines Qualcomm’s FSM small cell platform with SpiderCloud’s own small cell system.

SpiderCloud claimed the product, which it is aiming to upgrade to support licence assisted access technology, is optimised for densely populated indoor environments.

An accompanying Service Node can control up to 100 self-organising LTE small cells, which SpiderCloud said could cover an area of 1.5 million square feet.

The Wi-Fi baseband chipset is able to identify when the small cell is trying to use the channel and avoid interference between the two connectivities, the vendor added.

The solution has been launched into the US and SpiderCloud said it would introduce European and Asia friendly models, with licence assisted access compatibility, during the second half of this year.

Nick Karter, VP of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, said: “The evolution and deployment of systems enabling unlicensed and shared spectrum will be a critical building block for the 5G networks of tomorrow.”

SpiderCloud also announced the availability of its Frequency Agile small cell for its enterprise portfolio.

It claimed the SCRN-220 offers simplified engineering, deployment and maintenance of the network. Additionally, the cells can be reprogrammed to work with another network operator if an enterprise changes its cellular provider.

SpiderCloud said the new small cell operates at four times the power of traditional DAS radio heads and covers twice the area.

It will be launched in the third quarter of this year.
