Proximus, Huawei double down on strategic partnership with eyes on 5G

    -

Proximus has extended its strategic partnership with Huawei to help it on the road towards 5G.

The Belgian operator has been working with the Chinese vendor since January last year, with both telcos demonstrating speeds of 1GBps on Proximus’s network in May using LTE-Advanced.

In a statement, Proximus said the renewed partnership would focus on further developing the mobile experience, enabling next-generation video, telco cloud and data centre based business transformation, the creation of a “new network ecosystem” for 5G, and closer collaboration on mobile devices.

Dominique Leroy, CEO of Proximus, said: “We are delighted to have signed this strategic partnership focused on innovation with Huawei. This agreement will ensure the continued development of our networks and services offering our customers the best user experience, today and tomorrow.”

Alex Zhang, Board member & Senior VP, Huawei, added: “Through customer-centric innovation together with service ecosystem, we are dedicated to building ubiquitous broadband networks, excellent video user experiences and continually provide new service for our operator customers.”

Last week, Proximus said it was opening its APIs to developers in a bid to encourage new kinds of network services.
