Three Sweden has become the first operator in Sweden to partially deploy a TD-LTE Advanced network, working with Nokia on the project.
The operator is able to take advantage of 2.GHz band 38 spectrum, which offers higher capacity and download speeds. Nokia said spectrum in traditional FDD bands is scarce in the market, meaning operators need to look elsewhere to increase bandwidth and speeds.
The Finnish vendor provided its TD-LTE Advanced radio technology, which is based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station and also supported the FDD-LTE network upgrade. Nokia also handled hardware and software services.
The network deployment is expected to be fully completed by the end of June 2016, when it will also cover Gothenburg, Sweden’s second most populous city.

Meanwhile, Nokia has signed a deal with Zain Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to build a smart city in Jeddah. The aim of the project is to improve public services, enhance the business climate and deliver a better quality of life.
