1&1 Versatel rolls out 100Gbps fibre to more businesses

    -

1&1 Versatel plans to provide 100Gbps fibre connections to businesses in key commercial areas in the towns of Lehrte and Munster, provided there is sufficient demand to support the initiative.

The German voice and data services provider said it is working with a local economic development body to connect nine business parks in Lehrte to its fibre network, offering Internet speeds of up to 100Gbps to firms located there.

However, it requires a certain – unspecified – number of companies to commit to buying services before it will go ahead with the investment.

The availability of high-bandwidth telecoms infrastructure plays an important role in the investment decisions of companies in the area, 1&1 Versatel said.

“Recent studies show that companies increasingly need Gigabit data connectivity to meet the requirements of the digital world,” said Walter Denk, CEO of 1&1 Versatel. “We are pleased to create the conditions in Lehrte so that companies can take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization.”

1&1 Versatel is working on a similar initiative in the Hansestrasse commercial area of Munster, with connectivity again based on demand. The civil engineering element of the fibre-optic cable installation is already underway.

“We are very pleased that we were able to convince the first companies of our offer in a short time and now equip them with high-performance fibre-optic technology,” Denk said. “Soon the first companies in [the] Münster-Hiltrup [district] will benefit from our nationwide infrastructure initiative and will be prepared for the bandwidth requirements of the future.”
